In the wider BBT region, the establishment of Botshabelo was the greatest single disruptive factor, and will be the major apartheid inheritance. As a result of the changing political and economic climate in South Africa, its artificial boom in population growth and industrial development has already collapsed, which portends an even bleaker future for the remaining inhabitants of this dormitory settlement in the post-apartheid era.
