Bone Bruises

Bone (periosteal) bruises are frequent occurrences in athletic competition. They are most common in football, hockey, and soccer players.

A bone bruise is an injury to the periosteum, the thin sheath covering of the skeletal system. Periosteal injuries are often painful, and indicated by localized tenderness at the site of the injury, swelling, and skin discoloration.

HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT

Ruta Graveolens Symphytum

Ruta Graveolens , discussed in some depth under tennis and golfer’s elbow injuries, is a truly outstanding remedy in all periosteal bruises.

Symphytum , homeopathic comfrey, is concomitant and complementary to Ruta grav. in periosteal injuries. Should Ruta not take effect within 24 hours, Symphytum, with its deeper-acting properties, is the next step.

Potency and Dosage : Both Ruta and Symphytum are available in tablet and ointment preparations from homeopathic pharmacies. All potencies of both remedies are effective, with the lower potencies to be taken over longer periods. To assist in healing, the ointment (called cerates in homeopathy) may be applied externally, several times daily.
