The next day when Paul came into the office Jenna was busy paying bills. She laid down her pen and got up from the desk.

“Are you okay?” He gave her a fatherly hug. “I’m glad you got back in one piece. Sarah told me about the accident.”

“I’m all right. It was snowing, bad road conditions and we slid off the road. It was quite the adventure.” She walked over to pour herself and Paul a cup of coffee, wanting to change the subject. “Has much happened around here, while I was away?”

“No, things were quiet over the weekend. I kept an eye on the guy who was supposed to be dealing pot and nothing went on.” He smiled. “I think it was a false alarm.”

“Well, that’s good news. One less thing to worry about.” She picked up her Bronco’s coffee mug and took a sip.

The phone rang. Jenna jumped and spilled her coffee. Grabbing for a paper towel and the phone at the same time, she answered, “Hello, Aspen Valley Apartments. How can I help you?”

“Hello, is Jenna Myers there?”

“Yes, speaking. How can I help you?” Wiping up the spill, her hand stilled as she listened.

“I’m Brad Callahan with Omni Real Estate Corporation. I believe an associate of mine, Mark Wilson, contacted you about purchasing your property.”

“Yes, he did and as I told him, I don’t wish to sell.”

“Well, Ms. Myers, would there be any way you could have dinner with me tomorrow evening to discuss this matter further?”

“I’m really not interested in selling.”

“I need to talk to you about another matter that we can’t discuss over the phone. I’d appreciate you meeting with me.”

“I’ll have to check my schedule.” He had her interest now and she probably should at least hear what he had to say. Her father used to say that being informed was the best policy. That would be the smart thing to do.

“Well, there are some things going on in the lower downtown area that you might not be aware of and I’d like to meet with you to fill you in.”

“Okay, I guess that will be all right. Where should I meet you?”

“I’ll pick you up at your office, say around 7:00.”

“No thank you, I prefer to drive. Where would you like to meet?” In this day and age a girl had to be cautious.

“How about dinner at the Brown Palace?”

“That’s fine, I’ll see you there at 7:00.” She looked up at Paul. “I wonder what he has to tell me.”

“I think he wants to buy you out lock, stock, and barrel.” Paul rubbed his chin. “Might be a good idea to hear what the man has to say. You never know what the future holds.”

“Don’t sound so serious.” Jenna laughed. “I’m not going to sell. This is my home and you guys are my family.”

“I know what you’re saying, but I’m telling you to always keep your options open.”

“Okay, I get the picture. I’ll let the man talk, but I won’t sell.” She scribbled the meeting time and place on a piece of paper.
