Chapter 5

It had been almost five days since the dinner date and Julie still had not heard anything from Steven. She hated when men did this and she felt a little used to say the least. She wanted to put his head under her tire and run over him over and over again, but she knew all too well that she couldn’t do that. She and Steven had no commitment and calling him to bitch would just show him that she was like all the other dramatic bitches of the world. Meg had tried getting everything out of her, but the one thing she didn’t want to do was talk about Steven. Matter of fact, she had decided to do the one thing that would get him off her mind: bury herself in work. Dana had assigned her three new clients and so far, she loved everything about it. She actually found that the only time she thought about Steven was late at night, just before she slept, but a sleeping pill took care of that.

She had just walked back into the office after a long day. She had actually broken a personal record. She had managed to hold three open houses, and had already closed a couple of deals. She was feeling pretty good about herself as she walked towards her desk.

“Hey Julie, don’t get comfortable yet. We are having a board meeting in five,” Tamera, one of her workmates warned as she walked past her desk.

“Okay,” Julie said. “Do you know what about?” she asked as she looked over her shoulder.

“No, not really,” Tamera said before she walked away. Julie looked down at her black shiny pointed toe high heels and then frowned.

“I should have worn flats…or at least carried the spare pair from the car,” she thought as she walked towards the water dispenser. She poured herself a glass of water and then headed to the board room. She had just taken a seat when Dana walked in.

“Okay people. This is a short meeting. The Realtor Association of America annual gala is coming up next month. We need to make sure we meet our quota to get a nomination. Last year we lost by a mere hundred grand. This year, let’s make sure we get back the title from Lory Kahn and Associates. God knows we deserve it and we are on a really good track. This past month Julie Parker and Mark Thornton have brought in almost thirty million in sales. Keep this up and we will definitely get the RAA this year. And finally, there are rumors that the Pinkett manor is about to go on the market. Let us make sure that we get that listing,” Dana informed everybody. Julie smiled. The Pinkett manor was like the White House as far as realtors were concerned. Working in a firm that took care of handing the property over from one owner to the other would be legendary. “I have it on good authority that Lila Pinkett is going to be at the Hilton tonight, so we got to hustle,” she added.
