Chapter 15

Selina was still fast asleep when Blade went out of his way to shut the door to her trailer as quietly as possible. She had woken him up several times in the night drawing lazy circles across his chest with her nails. She would pass out again immediately after they finished. The last round had only been about an hour ago and Blade hadn't been able to get back to sleep so instead of lying there holding her in his arms, which he very much wanted to do, he figured it was best if he snuck out before anyone could see that he had been in her trailer overnight. He didn't want to put her in a precarious position, especially since there was still a good number of people at the carnival that thought he was responsible for the Hawk that still lay unconscious in his trailer due to how hard his head hit the ground.

The white MP had come and been able to heal the Hawk but told them it was best if they let him sleep at least a day and let his body's natural healing kick in. When Lucas argued with her, loud enough Blade heard it from where he was practicing, she told Lucas that it was always best to let the body heal what it could naturally instead of magically interfering whenever the body was injured. She said there was white practitioner research stating that if every little thing was healed magically eventually a creature's body would slow and stop depending on itself to heal even the smallest injuries beyond what a Human body would heal.

Lucas hadn't liked that response very much but stopped protesting after that. The white MP had given Jenny a liquid and she said that if Max woke up before morning tomorrow it would be best to give them the drink so he would go back to sleep. The MP had said that whoever Max had been fighting with was clearly strong and maybe even had some kind of weapon on hand to bash a Hawk over the head with because the head injury, if it had been done to a Human, would've caused brain damage.

She left soon after that, giving the Russells her business card and telling them to call her with an update once the Hawk woke up. Then she headed back to a place called Carnation, which only a handful of people seem to have known was a city.

Getting up this early did have some perks, not only would fewer people see him exiting Selina's trailer but he needed to get gas for his bike, and he would need to find a laundry mat somewhere, as he was down to his last set of clothing. Making his way back to his tent, Blade grabbed the plastic Ziploc bag he had all his toiletries in and headed toward the men's showers. Though it was already seven in the morning the carnival grounds were relatively dead. It seemed the small tightknit community was filled with night owls.
