Vreeland’s assertions involved a Russian angle to the story that indicates a possible deeper knowledge of the 9/11 operation. As has already been noted, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave interviews to American media after the 9/11 attacks, in which he indicated that Russian intelligence had warned the US government in the strongest possible language about the attacks, and included specific information about the size of the operation, its method suicide hijackings of airliners), and the potential targets. Ruppert writes:

Russian news stories had proved even more revealing about how much the Russian government knew beforehand.

One story from Izvestia was to subsequently have a key paragraph removed but not until after my staff had archived the story for safekeeping. I made sure to obtain two different translations to make sure that the wording was correct… Portions in bold were subsequently deleted from the Izvestia website:

“September 12, 2001 (14:15) Yesterday at the headquarters of Central Intelligence Service in Langley a confidential meeting between one of the Deputy Directors of CIA and a special messenger of Russian intelligence Service took place. According to NewsRu sources he delivered to his American colleagues some documents including audiotapes with telephone conversations directly relating to terrorist attacks on Washington and New York last Tuesday. According to these sources, Russian Intelligence agents know the organizers and executors of these terrorist attacks. More than that, Moscow warned Washington about preparations to these actions a couple of weeks before they happened.

“Russian Intelligence Service states that behind the terrorist attacks on Washington and New York stands the organization of Usama bin Laden, Islamic movement of Uzbekistan and Taliban government. According to our intelligence agents among terrorist there were at least two Uzbeks, natives of Fergana, who arrived in the U.S.A. on forged documents about ten months ago. A terrorist group which realized actions against the U.S.A. consisted of at least 25 people. All of them had a special training on the territories of Afghanistan and Pakistan including piloting of an aircraft.”67

Note carefully what the implications of the omitted passage in the Izvestia story are: the Russian government knew “the organizers and executors of these terrorist attacks,” yet the article goes on in the next paragraph to specify various terrorists and their training and mentions Osama bin Laden in this connection. Yet, this latter information has not been redacted from the Izvestia article.

The implication, in other words, of the deleted passage is either 1) it was deleted simply out of editorial considerations, as being redundant and non-specific, since the following paragraph specifies who the “organizers and executors of these terrorist attacks” were, or 2) it was deleted because the statement implies that some other group of people was actually involved in the planning and execution of the attacks. There are other indications from Russian sources close to President Putin and his advisory circle that the second interpretation is in fact the case:
