Now that my bachelor party was coming up, I was nervous about telling her. I had a feeling she would not be happy when she found out where we were going.

I wonder what she’ll say when she knows we’re going to Vegas.

I’d seen her in the office a few times, but she’d been avoiding me lately. When I had approached her in the coffee room that morning and said I needed to talk to her, she’d avoided eye contact with me and walked away without saying a word.

Does she not want to know about the bachelor party?

I still wasn’t sure why she was so skittish around me lately. She’d been that way ever since we had picked out her dress.

Was it because I’d gotten emotional that day, or did I say something to upset her?

Regardless, she needed to know about when and where the bachelor party would be. In the end, I decided it might be better to send her a text. However, after thirty minutes of staring at my phone, I hadn’t sent her anything.

I glared at my phone on my bedside table.

Why do you need to tell her? She’s not your real fiancée, so it’s none of her business.

Despite knowing that, I wanted to tell her about the trip. Some part of me sought her approval, and it grated on my nerves. Besides, it would be weird if someone asked her about the party and she didn’t know where I was.

That thought was enough to make me grab my phone and send her a quick text.

“Hey. I want to talk to you about the bachelor party, so that way, if anyone asks, you know where we went. When can we meet to talk?” I ran my fingers through my hair and paced back and forth in my room while I waited for her response. When I heard the chime of my phone, I saw a message.

“Can’t you just tell me where you’re going over the phone? Why meet in person?”

Because I want to see you, and because I don’t think you’ll like what I have to say.

I knew I couldn’t say that. Instead, I typed out a quick, “I’d prefer to see your reaction when I tell you ;)”

“Well, now you’ve got me worried. We can meet up tonight at my place. What time did you want to meet?”

“I was thinking, maybe at seven o’clock. Does that work for you?”

“Yes.”

I looked over at my alarm clock. It was five. That meant I’d need to be prepared for her reaction when I told her. I went to the kitchen and grabbed some dinner. By the time I’d finished eating, it was still only six, so I picked a few things up on my way to her house.

I got into my car and sat for a few moments before getting the courage to leave my driveway. Clara’s face, contorted in anger, kept circling through my mind.

You’re going to a place with strippers and gambling for your bachelor party. Nothing could possibly go wrong there, imaginary Clara said in my mind, and I winced.
