Chapter Thirteen

Cyndi’s consciousness came back slowly, her nose recognizing the smells and scents from Caitrìona’s cabin, and her body felt as if she were lying on a sofa, but for the life of her she couldn’t remember how she got there.

She fought to think, thoughts tumbling through her foggy brain as she pieced together the last things she could recall. A tall, very tall stranger. One who she’d reacted to . . . well, one her body had reacted to. Her face blushed as she thought about it again and her eyes popped open when everything rushed back . . . what had he said? He was her soul-mate?

No. She must have heard him wrong. That was impossible . . . wasn’t it?

“Hey, you’re awake.” His masculine voice sent shivers through her and she felt her stomach clench at the same time as her thighs.

What the hell.

Caitrìona came into her line of sight. “Here, sip this. It’s just some herbs I’ve put together to help you. You’ve had a shock and after last night, well, I’m a bit worried about you.”

Mr. Sexy appeared, looming behind Caitrìona, his honey eyes twinkling down at her, his expression worried and tense. “I’m sorry if I upset you. I certainly didn’t mean to. Please accept my apologies, Cyndi.”

She couldn’t control her heart as it sped up, blood rushing through her at the sound of his voice and the close proximity of his body. Instead of accepting his obviously heartfelt apology, she admitted, “I’ve no fricking idea what’s going on. I don’t like being sideswiped like that and, well, I’m feeling all out of sorts.”

She sat up slowly, her reaction to the man, Mitch, was unsettling and she still felt lightheaded. Taking the drink from Caitrìona she sipped it slowly, eyeing the stranger over the top of the cup as she stayed in place, his eyes staying locked on hers. Her blush started all over again, starting at her neck and working up and she knew he saw it, his lip tugging up on one side. Shoot. That just made him look even sexier.

Wait! What? Sexy?

Her Wolf started prancing around in her head, whining and acting like a young pup. She shook her head slightly, trying to clear it as she looked to Caitrìona for help. “Really, Caitrìona, what’s going on?”

“Really, Cyndi, what he says is true. He’s told you his name, Mitch, and he was sent by his Alpha, Jonson, who you met last night. The why he’s here is irrelevant. The important fact is that you are soul-mates.”

“You didn’t answer when I asked what he is.” Cyndi cocked an eyebrow at her teacher.

“Hey, I’m standing right here, baby. You can ask me if you want to know anything.”

“Don’t call me that!” she retorted, although when it had dripped from his lips her core had done unmentionable things . . . feelings that she’d never encountered before. Shit, she was in unchartered waters here and was sailing blind.

“What? Baby? I like it. I think I’ll be calling you that .
