Talia's hand fell to my lap, moving in between my thigh, squeezing me gently. "You keep kissing me like that...you'll make me think you're in love with me," she whispered. When she finished her words, I saw her face freeze, astonished by her own outspoken words.

My heart fluttered, caught off guard and unknowing of what to say. I did love her; but I wasn't sure if I was ready to say those words. There was so much I hadn't faced in my past. I saw her look away as my eyes gazed upon her.

"Reyna..." A woman’s desperate sob stiffened every muscle in my body.

My eyes widen, heart pounding against my chest like a fireball ready to burst out. I felt my eyes on Talia. She looked back at me and then onto the woman who was interrupting our breakfast.

"Dear God...it's you." The woman stood a few feet from me.

"Look Reyna. It’s your big brother," Brian screeched pointing behind the familiar older woman walking toward us.

"Fuck," I mumbled under my breath. I swallowed in my response to Brian’s words.

"Do you want to leave?" Talia squeezed my hand and whispered.

I looked at Talia, as she could read every emotion displayed on my face. I was thankful I told Talia a few months back, that my family was not supportive of my sexuality. I knew there was a chance we’d run into them and I didn’t want to blind side her with this kind of drama. I nodded. "Please..."

Talia nodded, grabbing my hand as she called out to the kids. "Cassandra...Brian. Let's go."

"But mom...we haven't finished our food," Brian whined.

"I'll make you a special breakfast at home." My voice was fragile.

"I'm Franklin." My brother stuck his hand to Talia and I frowned, surprised he did that. At least he acknowledged Talia. An improvement from the past.

Talia smiled, politely. “We were just leaving." She did not bother accepting his hand shake. That would indicate we were interested in a conversation. We weren’t.

Talia was taking the lead. I couldn't even gather two words together without wanting to cry. It wasn’t their prejudice against my sexually that angered it. It was the pain I suffered and how they belittled it due to my sexuality.

"Reyna honey. Please talk to me." My mother cried reaching for me and I stepped backward, bumping into the table. We were making a scene inside of the diner and I knew this was now one less place to visit. "It's been over two years. Almost three. Everything that happened is in the past."

What? I seethed and squeezed Talia’s hand tightly before loosening and releasing some of my anger that was about to come out. “Let's not do this."

I think for the first time, my mother barely noticed Talia. All she saw was me. Her eyes wondered from the kids and over to Talia, down to our embraced hands. I watched as her face changed from elation of seeing me; to pity, as if my life was a sad case of lost future. Still the same woman I knew the night I left.
