The next day, she had two of her tires replaced along with the rim she'd damaged hitting the pothole. It hadn't been particularly cheap, but she put it on her own personal credit card.

She was done with Martin and being his wife. It wasn't that she didn't love him, quite the opposite. His action with Harper had broken her heart. She expected that he'd travel back to New York, probably sometime during the day and she'd likely never hear from him again. Maybe he'd mail her the divorce papers and they could be done with it.

It neared the noon hour and Samantha had agreed to meet Jackson for lunch. Not that she was particularly interested in conversing with an old flame, but she didn't have it in her to turn him down either.

She drove to their usual spot, a diner outside of Ravenwood off the main thoroughfare, where they'd shared lunch on quite a few occasions.

Samantha held no regrets, except for maybe her young foolish lifestyle of sleeping with a man that was unobtainable. She was young and naïve. Jackson the older more mature gentleman that had swept her away with his charm, charisma and the fact he had connections to a publisher. She'd thought he'd leave his wife for her, which had been foolish. Why leave Dana when he could have both women whenever he wanted?

She hadn't slept her way up the corporate ladder. In fact, Jackson didn't work for a publisher, his brother, Liam, however did. Jackson was a cowboy, every bit of one: rough and rugged, which had been enough of a turn on to Samantha to forget he was married, the second time she slept with him.

"Maybe I deserved what happened," Samantha mused to herself, thinking about Harper and Martin. She pinched the bridge of her nose, a headache coming on as she tried to shake the cobwebs away and stepped inside the diner.

Seated in their old booth, Jackson glanced up from the menu. "I was wondering if you'd show."

"I wasn't sure that I should." Those lonely nights were over. She climbed into the booth, sitting across from him.

"We're separated," Jackson said, his steel gray gaze looked somber, almost lost, like a sad puppy that had wandered too far from home.

Samantha silently guessed that it hadn't been Jackson's decision. "You know, you, and me, it's not going to happen again." She didn't want to come across as harsh, but she needed to make it clear where she stood. Just because she joined him for lunch didn't mean she would sleep with him again.

Jackson rested his hands on the table, his eyes never leaving her gaze. His stare was intense. "That wasn't why I invited you to lunch. Actually, I'm thinking of selling the ranch."

"What? Really? You love that place." She was taken aback by his suggestion. "Why would you ever want to leave Ravenwood?" It didn't sound like the old Jackson she knew. Did he want a fresh start? Was he looking to leave the memories behind?

"I can't afford to keep it in the divorce.
