Flynn

I’m losing myself the longer I’m with her. Losing myself in wanting her.

We stayed the night together, and another day, just getting lost in each other.

I took her three more times before we left the hotel, each time hotter and more urgent than the last.

Somehow I became more than a fire fae. I became just Flynn, wanting to do anything to please Callie. Wanting to see her come apart in my arms.

Wanting to make all of her dreams come true.

I’m a sap, and I should have known I was going to fall for her so hard I would never get up again.

But is it really possible for us to be together forever?

As we drive back to my apartment, I’m not sure.

When we park and head inside, we barely have time to set foot in the hallway before Brett comes storming out of his apartment, holding up an empty cat carrier.

“That demon cat scratched the shit out of my face and escaped,” he says, looking hilarious with several Band-Aids on his forehead and cheeks.

I have to fight back a laugh, but Callie looks horrified. “Where is Ash?” She looks down both sides of the hallway. “Have you found her?”

Brett puts his hands on his hips. “Found her? Why would I find her? I’m glad we lost her.”

Callie looks at me, and my heart drops when I see how upset she is. “I shouldn’t have left her. She was nervous, in a new place…”

“It’s going to be fine,” I say. “I’m sure she’s somewhere nearby.”

“If you ask me, she seems happy,” Brett says, only stopping when I send him a sharp glare. “She got what she wanted, didn’t she?”

“But she could get hurt,” Callie says. “She could get hit by a car, or—”

A yowl catches our attention, and Callie almost slumps in relief, then runs in the direction of the sound.

Ash steps around a corner, tail high in the air and swishing back and forth. And then someone walks out behind her.

I feel the world stop as I look at the exact man that Callie described when we were at the park.

Tall. Beautiful—because there’s no other word for it. Long gray-purple hair, which he throws behind one shoulder as we watch.

His almond eyes are like dark amethysts, his skin pale. His gaze is imperious.

“Ash,” Callie says, getting on one knee and reaching out a hand. “Come back, girl. It’s okay now.”

But in front of our eyes, Ash disappears in a cloud of smoke and reappears as a giant, hulking man.

He’s tall, built like a dragon, with shaggy hair and a beard and a murderous look in his eyes.

He turns to the man next to him. “I can’t believe you turned me into a girl cat.”

“Just an illusion,” the man says lightly, shrugging a shoulder. “Does it really matter? You were able to keep an eye on the beacon.”

My mouth drops open, and I instantly step in front of Callie, drawing my wand. “I’m fighting for—”

“Save it,” he says, interrupting me with a wave of his elegant hand.
