Carnal Christians

The church at Corinth had so much carnality in it that the apostle Paul had to write to them as fleshly, immature and carnal Christians. They were pre-occupied by many carnal things that were more to do with their old life in paganism than their new position in Christ. The church was full of envy, greed, division, sexual immorality, drunkenness and pride. Paul says,

“…I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:1

These ‘carnal Christians’ were spiritual babies, living in childish immaturity. And the cause of Christ in the city of Corinth was being damaged. I wonder how many immature attitudes and actions in us today are holding back the power of God and keeping revival from breaking out in the full measure God intends.

Do you know that your carnality is holding back the kingdom of God in your life? And, even more than that, do you realise that carnal thinking and carnal living are grieving the Holy Spirit? He wants to move so powerfully in you and through you enabling you to impact thousands of people around you. But your fleshly desires and your careless living hold Him back. The Holy Spirit is a jealous Spirit and He yearns for us with a godly jealousy. He wants us to deal with the flesh and live pure lives before God.

It is time to reject the spirit of carnality and to be liberated by the Holy Spirit so that we can move forward in the revival of God.
