Chapter 15 – Paris

A half an hour after Noir booked a charter flight, they left the hotel and headed towards a sex boutique.

She had never been in a sex store. Not to mention, accompanied by a man who lusted non-stop to strip her naked. Vincent would wreak havoc in the shop. She told him to buy some clothes as long as she was in the shop. She wanted Vincent to make a decent impression and blend in at the airport. It offered the perfect excuse to engage him for a while.

Unfortunately, he stuck out, at least to the female customers. In his threadbare jeans and tight-fitting shirt, he looked good enough to devour. The Parisian women craned their necks, and not because his clothes were messy. Vincent pushed his sunglasses into his hair and fetched a couple of crumpled bills from his pocket. British pounds.

“You can stuff that right away.” Noir opened her purse and gave him 200 Euro.

“I’ll pay you back,” he said.

“Never mind, consider it as payment for your services.”

Vincent’s gaze darkened. “Gargoyles don’t protect for money. It’s an inner need to save humans from harm.”

Proud guy. “Well, you can work it off in a different way,” she joked. “You can carry my groceries and I could do with a regular foot massage.”

I would treat your sweet feet with my lips, suck your toes in my mouth, until you...

“How do you get through life if you don’t take any money,” she interrupted his indecent thoughts. His ideas sounded too good.

“What I need the Clan gives me.”

“You mentioned that before, but you’re almost never in London.”

“We have cash deposits all over the country,” he explained. “Grimsley tells me where I can get anything I need.”

She glanced sideways at Vincent, who walked close by and gazed around. He looked nervous. Noir halted on the pavement as they had arrived at the shop. “What’s wrong?” she asked. “Do you sense danger?”

“No, I’m just wary. I hate leaving you alone.”

“You don’t need to worry. No one knows who I am.” She wore a short blond wig, and a layer of concealer hid her scar. No demon would expect her to be in the company of a man. They looked like a young couple on a shopping tour. “Our stores are located side by side; if you notice something, you’ll be there in the blink of an eye.” She hoped he wouldn’t trudge after her into the sex shop.

He frowned, buried his hands in his pockets, and stared at her.

She could barely look away from him. “I’m not a little girl anymore.”

“No, you’re not,” he replied with a hoarse voice, peering at her from top to bottom.

Noir wore black leggings, a mini skirt, and one of her favorite turtlenecks in dark purple. And she had chosen comfortable slip-on shoes, which took up little space in her travel bag. The boots she had left at the hotel. In recent weeks, Vincent had seen her mostly in monk’s robes, or in her motorcycle outfit. Perhaps that’s why he stared at her so.
