Chapter 14

Stone’s acerbic tone should have stopped her, but Ivy had more questions to ask. If she let him shut down the topic, she’d never have the opportunity to know what had happened…and if he’d ever gotten over Olivia.

She placed her hand over his and felt his muscles contract under her light touch. “I’m sorry. You must have felt betrayed. I know how that feels.”

He remained motionless save for a tic in his jaw. “I should’ve seen it coming. The moment my ex-girlfriend met Stryker, she went out of her way to impress him. She craved his attention.”

“Did he encourage her?”

“He didn’t have to,” he said bluntly. “Stryker’s used to having women fawn over him.”

“So, what happened?” Ivy waited for his answer, but his jaw was clamped shut as he appeared to wrestle with what to say.

“She broke up with me,” he said abruptly. “She said she’d fallen for Stryker and didn’t want to lead me on.”

“That’s horrible. But how do you know that they slept together? She didn’t tell you that, did she?” Ivy said incredulously.

“She didn’t have to. I went straight to Stryker and confronted him.”

“Then what happened?” she threw in to encourage him to elaborate. He wasn’t being very talkative.

“He flat-out denied there was anything going on between them, but when I said I didn’t buy that, he changed his tune.”

“How did he do that?”

The waiter appeared at the most ill-timed moment and offered them another Mochaccino. They both declined, but Stone had to wait until the waiter refilled their water glasses and left before he continued speaking.

“He said she tried to seduce him, but he didn’t take the bait. I didn’t believe him, and he got furious.”

“His honor was questioned,” she murmured.

“What honor?” he growled. “He lied.”

“Why don’t you believe him over Olivia?” Something was off. Stone didn’t strike her as a narrow-minded guy who would easily turn on his twin.

He scowled. “Because he would have jumped at the chance to sleep with Olivia.” He made it sound as if anyone would have jumped at the chance.

“Oh,” she said in a small voice.

“He helped her get the lead role in the Knight Legacy movies,” he added with a disdainful curl of his lip. “She slept her way to the top, cliché as it sounds.”

Ivy drew in a sharp breath at the mention of the Knight Legacy movies, of which she was a huge fan. “Wait…are you talking about Olivia Meadow, the movie star?”

At Stone’s grim nod, Ivy rocked back in her chair and stared at him, astounded. Olivia and Stryker had starred together in the Knight Legacy movies. They had sizzled on screen…and evidently off screen too.

She got a visual image of Olivia’s emerald eyes, long, black hair and knockout figure. Men drooled over her. Were she and Stryker still together? Small wonder Stone looked so irate.

“Olivia Meadow of the Knight Legacy movies was your girlfriend?” Ivy repeated to make sure.

“Yeah, before she became famous. Once she hooked up with my brother, her career took off.”

“Are they still a couple?” She had to find out if Olivia was single or taken.
