Never forget that the power of choice is ever there. Even if we cannot always control outer events in our lives, the one choice that remains is to choose our perspective.
The late psychiatrist Viktor Frankl, in Man’s Search for Meaning, shares his story of being a Holocaust survivor during World War II. After witnessing his entire family killed in a concentration camp, Frankl had an epiphany that not only changed his life but became the foundation of his important work later in New York. He was stripped of everything and everyone who held meaning for him. Then he was stripped of any power to change the horror around him. Then Frankl realized that though he had no power over outer events, he did have power over how he perceived what was happening. Frankl later wrote, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” This shift in perspective determined his life from then on and helped hundreds of his patients.
In other words, we can choose how we view what is happening to us. Remember that before action, comes thought and vision. Hold the vision in your mind and in your heart, and it might surprise you what happens!
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.
