Chapter Seventeen
Returning to New York, Shia was a complete mess. She had no idea what to make of the situation that had taken place in Washington, D.C. She didn’t trust Remi further than she could see her. Demetri was also suspect to her now. It just didn’t make sense. Why were Trent, Demetri and Remi all at the same airport at the same time where Leigh was when she disappeared and no one acted as if they knew anything?
Neither of them was speaking and that worried her, but she wondered if Trent’s number were the same. Maybe just maybe he would be willing to talk to her. She needed answers and she felt like Trent would tell her something. All she needed was something to go off to give her some type of lead.
Grabbing the cordless phone in the hall as she went into the twin’s nursery, shut, and locked the door behind her. She was determined to get answers. Dialing the only number she had on file for Trent, she sent up a short silent prayer to God and patiently waited as the phone rang on the other end of the receiver.
“Damn D. It took you long enough to get at me.” Shia was shocked when Trent’s voice came across the other end of the phone and the fact that obviously he had her and Demetri’s home number in his phone and was familiar enough with Demetri to call him D.
“This isn’t Demetri Trent. It’s Shia.” As soon as Trent heard Shia’s voice, he hung up the phone. Shia’s shock instantly turned to fear. What in the world was going on? Pressing the off button on the phone all Shia could think was this was not happening. It was just too much shadiness going on and not enough answers. Unlocking the door and walking out of the boy’s room into the hall, she placed the phone back in its cradle. Shia had work to do; it was painfully obvious that if Leigh was going to make it back home alive in one piece, Shia was going to have to be the one to make that happen. But how, she thought.”
Following the sounds of the noisy threesome, she made her way into the family room where the twins and their dad were all lying on the floor watching, “Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakquell.”
“Baby, can we talk for a minute? The boys should be ok we won’t go far.”
“We can talk right here.” Demetri responded without glancing her way.
“Well could you at the very least turn and look at me so I know you’re paying attention?”
Demetri sighed softly, and then slowly got to his feet. Looking down on her through slit eyes she could tell he wasn’t happy to be interrupted.
“What is it?” Demetri wasn’t in the mood for whatever it was Shia wanted to discuss. He could tell by the serious expression on her face and the tone of her voice that any topic she had in mind was going to be draining and all he wanted to do was enjoy time with the boys.
