Chapter 15

I lay against Alexander’s bare chest, still reeling that I calmed him down enough to lay with me. “Just tell me what’s going on.” I plead.

He shakes his head; his fingers twirling my damp hair. “I need to show you, love.”

“Show me, then. Just don’t get upset with yourself.” I tell him, worried. He cracked that headboard in one quick movement, and the wood was at least four inches thick.

“Not here.” he replies, sitting up. “We’ll go to our clearing.”

I stand, not wanting to wait any longer. I place my hand over my necklace, trying hard to understand that this is reality now and no longer my dreams. I have to be more responsible. “We need to see Mia and check on your dad first.”

He nods. “I know, and I still have to deal with Mason.” Alexander spits his brother’s name. “Tomorrow morning, then?” I look to the window to find the twinkling sky swirling with stars.

Silence passes over the room for a brief moment, and I decide that whatever it is, I’ll know in time. “What first?” I ask.

“I need to meet Mia.” he decides, eliciting a smile from me.

I get dressed, noticing with surprise my unblemished skin.

Earlier, cuts and scrapes adorned my legs and ankles, but now, there’s nothing. I continue to rub in confusion until Alexander finally speaks. “You know so much about stones. Didn’t you realize what we were bathing in?” he asks, a hint of a grin on his face.

“It’s clear quartz.” I reply and smile when he grins in approval. I’m intrigued by the look on his face. “So, is it more magical here? Will it fix wounds?” I ask, still rubbing my unscathed legs.

“No, just minor cuts and scrapes. My mom used to tell me it could fix a broken heart.” Alexander smiles fondly.

I marvel at the new information.

Natural healing that is amplified by the power that Haven holds. The things this could have done in my world to help. I can’t wait to learn more about everything this world has to offer. “Is that true?” I ask, wondering if it will indeed heal a broken heart or if that’s one of Haven’s quirky myths.

“No. It never worked for me.” He frowns, looking out the open balcony doors.

I hate to be jealous, but the thought of him being with someone else and loving them upsets me. “Did you ever get over her?” I wonder, bashfully.

“No fucking way,” he responds, and a smirk brightens his features. “It’s you.”

“I broke your heart?” I gasp slightly.

When he shakes his head, his sharp jawline is illuminated by the candlelight. “No, but the distance did. The constant wonder if I’d ever have you, touch you, take you.” he says, dipping his head down. “I remembered words she wrote in her diary, and I tried.”

“Well, I’m here now. You never have to worry about that.” I assure him with a comforting smile.

We step out into the quiet castle. I was so lost in our own world that I had forgotten just how big this place is and how many live here.
