3.9 Current Challenges

Up to this point, we have discussed various strengths of HB, but also encountered limitations. In the following, we briefly summarize what we believe are the most important and imminent challenges:theoretical knowledge of existence, local uniqueness, and convergence for ordinary differential as well as differential-algebraic equation systems of lower degree of smoothness;

theoretical knowledge of pre-asymptotic behavior and useful (affordable) error estimates;

theoretical knowledge for selecting the number of time samples N within the AFT scheme for non-polynomial nonlinearities;
