Chapter Eight

Throwing back his head, he laughed so loud it shook the rafters. The look of utter shock and complete embarrassment on Hope’s face was nothing short of priceless.

Settling over him like a warm blanket, the truth became glaringly obvious ~ humor, hell, everything was over and again infinitely more pleasurable when shared with someone he loved. And it beat the fuck right out of drowning in the icy cold terror he’d experienced after waking up and feeling Hope’s fear.

His reaction had been immediate and intense. Using the unbreakable bond between them, he’d tapped into her mind’s eye. Witnessing firsthand the battle she fought with Vengeance was not only terrifying but solidified what he already knew ~ his Angel was nothing short of fucking amazing.

Something happened. Something that scared him shitless while at the same time making him feel more alive than he ever had. Something that hadn’t happened since he’d fallen from Grace. Something that only the woman, the Angel who’d turned his world upside-down and inside-out and stolen his heart could do ~ his heart quite literally and absolutely irrevocably skipped a beat.

It didn’t make sense. Wasn't something he'd sought out. Damned sure never thought it would happen for him. But it had, and he wouldn't change it for all the money in the world or the Grace in Heaven.

The only thing left to do, the hardest part, the one that would determine whether eternity was blissful or hellish...he had to explain it to the beautiful woman in his arms.

Opening the doors with little more than a thought, he stalked straight into his room, slamming the door behind them. Sitting down in the large, oversized, black leather La-Z-Boy ~ his throne ~ he sat Hope firmly upon his lap.

Wiggling and squirming, trying to get up, she refused to stop. Tenderly laying his hand on her arm, once again gazing at her startled expression, he chuckled, “Darlin’, if you don’t stop all that right now, I can’t....no check that, won’t be responsible for what happens next.”

Brow furrowing, her gorgeous lips turning down in a frown, she questioned, “What are you...?” Turning into a gasped, “Oooooh...nooooo.” And there it was, recognition of the absolute power she had over him between his legs. The lovely pink flush staining her cheeks and covering her neck that had made her irresistible at first meeting was stronger than ever.

Needing to see her eyes, even though her chin was tightly tucked to her chest as she worried her bottom lip with her teeth, Hades gently slid his index finger under her chin and lifted her head. Gazing into her mesmerizingly beautiful eyes, it was all right there.

Sure, he’d heard her talking, pleading with him while he’d been healing. It was the single most powerful reason his recovery time was about one-tenth of what it should've been.

“Hope, my darlin’, there’s not one damned thing for you to be embarrassed about. This is what happens when a man loves a woman as much as I love you.”
