Chapter 4

Jake

Jake didn’t know what to think of the human woman who was asleep at his side. She was warm, felt good, and she was aroused. He had noticed the change, and like before when she had started to respond to him, he was overwhelmed by a need that threw him off because he wasn’t sure what to do with it. Charmaine was human.

He looked down at her and wondered what made Charmaine make him feel so strange. She was different than other humans, though he didn’t know how. It was like she could see inside of him and just her presence was enough to drive him wild.

Trying not to disturb her or the two in the back, Jake studied her profile while he drove, felt her heat against him, and smelled the arousal that was still there. What made her do that? Was she as attracted to him as he was to her?

The miles came faster, and he was there at the cabin before he knew it. He had turned the vehicle engine off, but no one had woken up yet. Jake sat in the silence a moment longer before he got out and opened up the cabin, finding a hide-a-key under a fake rock. The rock was obviously plastic, so it wasn’t hard to find. It never failed to amaze him how humans did such things. It wasn’t safe, but he was glad for it now.

Jake looked around the cabin and was impressed by how big it was. It was small in comparison to where he lived, but it was nice, secluded, and now he was wondering what was going to happen there. He had in his mind what he wanted to happen, and it involved the beautiful little human that had all of his attention.

He went back out to the truck and went to the passenger side. He was going to wake her up, but she was so peaceful. She had leaned up against the door after he’d left. She didn’t wake up right away, so he picked her up into his arms and carried her into one of the bedrooms in the cabin. He laid her on the bed and stayed in the room for a moment, trying to figure out how she was bewitching him. Jake didn’t like the feeling, but he didn’t want to walk away either. It was all too complicated and instead of thinking about it too much, he went to the SUV and got the rest of the people out.

Jake didn’t carry them in. He woke Wendy up first and then Steve. They all found a room and Jake put his things next to Charmaine’s room. He wasn’t sure why he did it, just knew that he wanted to be close to her, even though he would never admit what it was really about, not even to himself. Jake knew that what he was thinking was forbidden. Humans were off limits, he knew that. Why was he making it so hard
