Raven Brooks experienced some of its fiercest lightning on record early Wednesday night, Meteorologists have dubbed the storm a “microburst,”

due to its sudden and erratic behavior and potential for destruction.

Those who witnessed the storm for themselves, however, are naming it something else.

“A tornado!” said Marvin Buxbaum, 41, of Potters Court. “I spent half my life in Tornado Alley from Kansas and Oklahoma. I know a twister when I see one.”

Nelly Grisham, 29, of Silver Lakes agreed. Pointing to the shattered window of her upstairs bedroom and two downed trees in her yard, she said, “The wind was just swirling. You could barely hear over the ruckus.”

Clayton Park, 55, assessed the damage at his Korean BBQ located in the Square, an area hit particularly hard by the fierce storm. He told the Raven Brooks Banner that he feels lucky to have survived unscathed.

“Everyone said I was going overboard with cardboard in my windows, but it just seems like these storms are getting worse and worse. And if anyone in the neighborhood needs a safe place to eat, bad weather or no, Park’s BBQ

is the place to be!”

According to Dr. Lucia Rivera of the Modern Weather Institute, “The phenomena in Raven Brooks are not only growing more frequent, their behavior is less predictable. The fact that it seems to be isolated to this particular town makes the whole thing even more baffling, and frankly concerning.”

The bad weather has prompted locals to wonder about the future of Golden Apple Amusement Park, slated to open this summer. Mayor Marvin Tavish remains unconcerned.

“Things are humming along nicely. Beautifully, in fact!” Mayor Tavish said in an exclusive interview with the Banner . “By this summer, Raven Brooks will be known internationally for two things: delicious candy and the best family recreational park this side of the Mississippi.”

The Golden Apple Amusement Park has been plagued by several delays, twice due to vandalism and once after a crane operator was injured by falling pipework. Furthering the amusement park’s troubles has been the yet unexplained disappearance of a security guard tasked with patrolling the construction site. In recent weeks, the park’s very own designer—Theodore Peterson—has come under increased scrutiny, leading some to believe the park’s troubles are connected to more than just the weather.

“Think about it,” said Joanie Jenkins, 49, who identified herself as a local mother. “Here comes this family out of nowhere, and suddenly the storms are back and worse than ever. Now you tell me if that’s just coincidence.”

“The people of Raven Brooks have nothing to worry about,” said Mayor Tavish. “Construction is proceeding as scheduled, and our rides will be bigger and better than any you’ve ever seen. Come rain or shine, the citizens of our happy little town will be screaming their heads off this summer.”

Enzo takes a deep sigh, folds the newspaper in half, and sets it on the floor.

“Well, at least you aren’t the only thing people are talking about anymore,” he says to me.

I think I’d prefer raccoons.

“No,” I say, doing nothing to hide my sarcasm.
