PRIDE

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

PROVERBS 11:2

Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the LORD, and humility comes before honor.

PROVERBS 15:33

Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor.

PROVERBS 29:23

This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom

or the strong boast of their strength

or the rich boast of their riches,

but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me,

that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,”

declares the LORD.

JEREMIAH 9:23–24

“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

LUKE 14:11

I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more. . . . But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.

PHILIPPIANS 3:4, 7–8

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.”

MATTHEW 20:26–27

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

ROMANS 12:3

“Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?”

declares the LORD.

“These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.”

ISAIAH 66:2

Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.

PROVERBS 13:10

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

PHILIPPIANS 2:3–4

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

1 PETER 5:5
