The Bible talks a lot about the believer being perfected and made holy. Paul, in the New Testament, writes about presenting “every man perfect in Christ Jesus” (Colossians 1:28 NKJV). Another scripture describes being “perfect in Christ” this way: “efficient and graceful in response to God’s Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ. No prolonged infancies among us, please… God wants us to grow up…like Christ in everything” (Ephesians 4:13-15 MSG).

Believers are in the process of being perfected. A useful definition of perfect is being thoroughly complete or whole; like a finished masterpiece. Our only part in this process of perfection is being yielded to the Master’s hands. When we are focused on God’s work in us, instead of our work for Him, the pressure of being perfect is replaced with the promise of being perfected. The pressure is on the Master Artisan, not on the lump of beloved marble.
