WHEN LOCALIZATION PREMIUM CAN BE GOOD

Since localization premium cannot be avoided, the point is to be more conscious of the complexity being created during decision-making processes.

Along those lines, there is such a thing as “good” localization premium, meaning that some complexity can have a positive value and worthwhile outcome.

One of the primary (and necessary) areas of good premium is localization designed to engage target customers in a new market. If, for example, customers in a new market can’t read your website, marketing material, or user guides because they are in a language they don’t understand, you will probably find it hard to get them to buy your product.

That being said, you should limit the amount of complexity you label as “good”; never use it as a justification for avoiding efficiencies. Think long term, be aware, and stay attuned to the constant change that occurs after launch.
