Chapter 8

K urt’s teeth couldn’t break Damon’s scaly skin, but he could grip Damon’s neck hard enough in his jaws to strangle him so that’s what he was doing. Granted, there were easier ways, but it just felt good to strangle him.

It wasn’t Kurt’s fault. Damon knew that Kurt was in dragon form and had Faith with him. Still, aware that Kurt’s dragon would be protective, Damon waltzed in and said Etel would be pissed that Kurt had revealed himself, and thus their kind, to Faith. Kurt argued that since she had magic, the usual protocols didn’t apply. Damon said there were still protocols and Kurt should have gotten clearance through the Brethren.

Damon hated the Brethren and never asked their permission for anything.

“You’re just looking for a fight, aren’t you?” Kurt had asked.

Damon had grinned. “You said you could take me, little brother.”

Kurt’s phone rang beneath a section of roof that had fallen, returning Kurt to reality. The only person who ever wanted to have voice conversations with him was Talon and Kurt was in the process of giving Talon’s father brain damage. Kurt released the large black dragon and changed back to human form. Since he was unconscious and no longer under attack, Damon changed to human form as well.

Kurt winced at the sight of Damon’s neck, already bruising. He was weakened because of the death of his mate and he was injured. Dammit. Kurt knew he went too far. Damon’s dragon healing wasn’t working right. Damon had wanted a fight, but it was wrong for Kurt to give in so easily to his rage.

His clothes buried along with his phone, Kurt crouched down and threw his bare ass naked brother over his shoulder. He strode out of the barn and toward the house. He heard the voices of a few members of the wolf pack and knew they wouldn’t be overly concerned with his nudity. It was just part of being a shifter.

What was annoying was that Jason started singing “He Ain’t Heavy He’s my Brother” by the Hollies and a few others picked it up. Damned werewolves.

Kurt didn’t look at them, but he flipped them off just the same. Laughter followed him into the house.

After he got his now semi-conscious brother settled in bed, Kurt got dressed and went looking for his phone. There was obviously an impromptu party at Faith’s. By the sound of it, the whole pack was there.

His phone was dirty and scuffed but still worked. The missed call was from Talon. Kurt braced himself and called back.

“Hey, did my dad get there okay? He’s not picking up his phone,” Talon asked.

“Yeah, he’s here. We got into a little fight. He’ll be alright.”

 “Can I talk to him?”

 “Uh...he’s resting. The fight was…”

“Don’t tell me you hurt him.”

“Just a bit. He’ll be okay. I’m sorry man, he was baiting me and I lost it. I put him in bed. I swear I’ll take care of him.
