On the 19th, U-1105 departed Lisahally for Holy Loch. The U-boat entered a floating dry-dock on the 21st where work began on scrapping the hull to repair the sections where the Alberich was damaged or worn, as well as painting. Alberich sheets were removed from the Alberich-covered U-485, which were taken from the same relative positions on the boat. On the 24th, work on repairing the Alberich was compete and the was dry-dock flooded. U-1105 departed Holy Loch on the 25th and cruised to Inchmarnock (north) and Rothesay where testing commenced with a deep dive, then a snorkel run. Snorkel testing continued on the 26th, followed by a move back to Holy Loch. From the 27th until the 31st, U-1105 conducted side-by-side testing with U-1171 at Loch Goil and Lisahally.48

At the end of August an evaluation of the overall state of U-1105’s readiness was conducted with a report being issued on September 4. The report read:

Report on the state of U-1105

Date of last docking: 21st August, 1945

Hull: Good condition. Rubber covering, however, is in a bad state.

Main Engine: Krupps, Germania Werk. Non-reversing. Satisfactory condition. All valves require overhaul, before full power can be achieved. Muffler valves leak badly under diving pressure. Several attempts have been made to remedy this, but it appears to be an inherent weakness in design in this type of U-boat.

Propeller and Shafting: Both good. Thrusts, brakes, stern glands are all in good condition.

Auxiliary Machinery: In general the auxiliary machinery is in a satisfactory condition with the following exceptions:

Electrical Air Compressor and Junkers Air Compressor: In working order, but both require complete overhaul.

Forward Telemotor Pump: Noisy in operation and require complete overhaul.

Electrical Lub. Oil Pump. Noisy in operation, requires overhaul.

Main Motors: In good condition.

Main Battery: In good condition, date of installation unknown.

Main and Auxiliary Switchboard: In satisfactory condition.

Miscellaneous:

W/T Machinery. In good condition.

Echo Sounder. Defective. Zero insulation between oscillator and amplifier. Control box burnt out.

Log. Defective.

Hydrophones. All gear in good condition.

Radar. Satisfactory condition.

GSR. Borkum: Satisfactory condition. Naxos: 3cms and 9cms lack Tunis aerial.

Torpedo Tubes. Satisfactory condition.

Spares. Approximately 30% have been used. Remainders are in a satisfactory condition.49

U-1105 remained at Holy Loch at the start of the month. A snorkel run for another trial was conducted on the 4th at Loch Goil. Cleaning of the U-boat occurred on the 9th, apparently in preparation for the Tripartite Naval Commission (TNC) inspection that commenced at 9:00am on the 11th. That same night at around 9:45pm U-1105 left its berth, dived and began a snorkel run to Loch Goil, completing the transfer at 11:15pm. The next day, U-1105 conducted additional trials with its snorkel then returned back to Holy Loch. Submerged trials and a snorkel run again occurred at Loch Goil on the 14th. Two days later, on the 16th, U-1105 moved to Fairley and Rornesey where additional tests occurred until the 17th before it returned to Holy Loch. The testing from the 4th–17th
