Chapter 5

Jeffery looked over the specs he’d been given to set up the dish he was installing on one of the downtown buildings the family owned. They were planning to use the building as a centralized location for Garfield and Sable to work from, and he’d been asked to make sure they had a good, secure network. Honestly, he’d rather be having his nails clipped as his wolf than to work on something so mundane as a dish network.

“You know that you can just do that with the magic that you have.” He nearly fell backward off the building when Storm appeared before him. He growled at her and told her to be careful next time. “I’m sorry. You were feeling so sorry for yourself that I could have knocked you off anyway, and you’d not noticed. Why are you bothering with the actual work of this when all you need to do is just make it work magically. It would more than likely be more secure too.”

“I guess I never thought about it.” He sat back on his butt and looked at Storm. “I have a couple of questions for you. You don’t have to tell me if it’s some kind of rule you can’t break but do I have a mate out there too? The reason that I ask is, I don’t—”

“Yes, you all have mates. And if you were going to tell me that you don’t want one, then tough shit. She’s coming, and you’ll love her.” He laughed. “That’s not what you were going to say, is it? I’ve been off the handle all day. I need a distraction so I can think about the issue that I’m having with someone in town stealing. So what was it you were going to say you didn’t want?”

“I don’t want to be not ready. I know I have a home that is, for the most part, not furnished. I never saw a need for it before as I spend most of my time working. Also, it’s a big flipping house, in the event you didn’t know, and it would take me a while to get my shit together and fill it.” She asked him why he didn’t just fill it with things he found. “I don’t really socialize all that much. My idea of a fun Saturday night is to order a pizza, watch something on television, then go to bed. As I said, not much of a socializer. I know that I could easily buy things that I want online. But that seems so cold to me. I was perhaps wondering if you or one of the other women could help me out with that.”

“You mean to fill out your home for another woman that will more than likely want her own things? Sure, let us get right on that for you.” He told her she didn’t need to be nasty. “No. You’re right. I didn’t. Sorry. Maybe if I tell you my issue, you can help me.
