The Morning After…

“Wake up…wake up sleepy head.” Cassie sang kissing Luke’s forehead. “Baby I know you don’t want to hear this, but you have to get up and get dressed for Rock’s funeral.”

“Yeah thanks for the reminder. Damn I wish we didn’t have to do this today. I wish my boy was still here.”

“Luke baby I wish there was more I could do to make you feel better.”

“Baby you’re doing enough just stickin’ wit’ me through all this.”

“That’s called unconditional love Luke, so are you getting dressed now or are you going to wait until the last minute?”

“I need to go find Carmen and apologize for last night.”

“Luke I thought you were over that? She lied to you, betrayed and deceived you, then had the nerve to diss you, so why are you letting her get to you like this?”

“I shouldn’t have hit her Cassie no matter what she did. I am not that dude that can hurt women and act like it doesn’t bother me you know that.”

“I know that is one of the many reasons why I love you, but if you ask me Carmen had it coming. Hell she better be lucky I didn’t whoop her ass cause I was damn sure close to it before you walked in.”

“Yeah well I’m glad you didn’t cause now that I know Cashmere is mine, I have to make things good between all of us. How are you feelin’ bout that whole situation anyway?”

“If you’re asking me am I surprised you have an illegitimate child by your best friend’s older sister; that you started screwing at thirteen…then no I am not.”

“What you tryna say Cassie?”

“You’re a lady’s man that likes to screw, so it doesn’t surprise me that so many women are after you and want to have your babies. Outside of rapping Luke it’s what you do best. I had two of your babies back to back so what does that tell you?”

“It tells me that my soldiers are strong and they know how to march in the right direction.”

“Guess what though you’re all mine now and no one is gonna change that.”

“I love you baby, I’m glad you ain’t trippin’ bout this, but I really gotta go talk to Carmen.”

“Okay baby, I’m going to lay your suit on the bed and get in the shower and don’t forget you have to finish that letter you started writing Rock last night.”

“I know baby, I’ll be back soon.”

Luke kissed Cassie’s lips, grabbed his pajamas, and went to find Carmen. He knocked on her room door, and got no answer, so he went downstairs. Shanelle was in the living room straightening Cashmere’s hair, the minute their eyes connected it warmed Luke’s heart. He didn’t know how he missed it for so many years because Cashmere is clearly the splitting image of him in so many ways especially her beautiful bright smile.

“Hey daddy!” Cashmere said blushing.

“Hey Princess!” Luke said kissing her forehead. “Where yo’ mama?”

“Out there.” Cashmere pointed to the patio where Carmen was sitting.
