Chapter 7

* * *
An unusual sensation crawls through my chest as I watch Katrina sitting there on the bench waiting for me. Sheâs not Gloria, nowhere close, but that doesnât mean sheâs not the best thing to ever stumble into my lap. I know Luka wants her, but I canât decide if he wants her as a plaything or yet another victim.
Rolling my shoulders, I take stock of my body, pleased to note that the headache and odd light flashes have fully disappeared. Perhaps it was something I ate or drank? I refuse to have any alcohol on board. It doesnât matter that Iâm allowed up to two beverages. With Luka on this ship and a submissive to protect, I canât allow myself to slip in any way. Too much can happen with a drink, and I donât want to take that chance.
The submissive that handed Katrina the water prowls about, glancing over at her every few moments. Frowning, I eye the bottle, looking for any tell-tale residue of powder on the plastic. From over here, it looks fine; Iâm probably just being paranoid. Then again, most drugs now donât leave any trace.
I was already planning on walking her to her room after this, but Iâm going to keep her by my side for the next thirty minutes or so. That would be more than enough time for GHB or Rohypnol to take effect. I canât believe I was so careless. There are literally cases of water in my room just in case.
My carelessness might have just put her in danger, and I hate the guilt ricocheting through my brain at the moment. The whole point of being with her was to keep her safe, and here I let some stranger give her water. I didnât even check to ensure the cap was sealed or any holes from a syringe being put in.
Then again, if sheâs one of the shipâs helpers, it would stand to reason sheâd be passing out water. Glancing up again, I watch as she goes back to the side of the ship and grabs a few more bottles for another scene finishing up. Relief pours through me as I watch her scuttle about cleaning things here and there.
It seems a lot less suspicious now that Iâm allowing myself to actually think and not just act on instinct. If only Luka wasnât actually here with us. Heâs the main thing getting my hackles raised. Anyone but him. Now that I know heâs here, I canât act any differently. Itâs too late to go back to being carefree.
Narrowing my eyes, I watch Katrina as I wipe down the cross. So far, sheâs just looking bored. Nothing seems off with her. She catches my glances every now and then, and I smile, not wanting to worry her. She seems so fragile. While in the throes of passion, she was invincible, but now, she just seems so small and lost.
I hate how it tugs at my heart. I shouldnât feel
