Many sensational gifts and talents don’t mean much over the long haul. The longer I live, the more I treasure people who just keep walking with God.

Just as our bodies need strength in order to keep functioning, our spirits need endurance. When our faith becomes weakened through discouragement, we have trouble standing on God’s promises. We struggle to say no to temptation. It’s easy to give in to the devil. “The Big D” threatens to snuff out our spiritual life. But with God, we can have the power to resist discouragement. He can give us the spirit of Caleb and Joshua that triumphs despite the difficulties facing us.

Notice that Paul prays for endurance. This was not something he could transmit by verbal teaching to the Colossian believers. This wonderful strength had to come directly from God at the throne of grace.

And it will keep coming as we keep asking and trusting in our God.
