“Stand firm . . .

see the deliverance the LORD will bring you . . .

. . . you need only to be still.”

I love the story in 2 Chronicles 20 where three armies had surrounded Judah and Jerusalem. The people were terrified, and there, with enemies all around them, they stood before the Lord, wondering what to do. Then the Spirit of the Lord came on a man named Jahaziel, a Levite, and he stood in the assembly and said, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. . . . You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you” (vv. 15, 17 NIV).
