Chapter sixteen

Asher

“I messed up, wolfy. I don’t know what to do. I didn’t mean to fuck up so bad, but I did. Fuck, what am I going to do?!”

Shit, I must have passed out at my desk again, searching for a fucking way into Hell and now I’m dreaming because that damn colourful shadow is back calling me wolfy.

I growl, looking around at the colourful mass of shadows in the pitch black. “What do you mean you messed up, did you not find her?!”

A week after Red went missing, I started having these dreams of colourful shadows that would tell me they’re looking for her as well, that they want to help.

At first I thought I was going mad in my dreams - fuck, I still might be going mad - but the more I talk to them, the more real they feel.

“No, no, I found her. She’s safe with me, but I fucked up real bad, wolfy. She’s going to hate me forever.”

Their voice is so sad and lost, it tugs at my heart, and I have the overwhelming urge to comfort them and make everything better. But they just said two words I’ve been dying to hear - she’s safe.

“What?” I roar. “She’s safe? Where is she, how is she? Where the fuck do you have her?”

This would be really fucked up if it was only a dream, but I have to believe it’s not. My whole fucking soul wants to believe it’s true.

“Oh right, you don’t know. I've been trying for ages to get into your dreams again but your skull is so damn thick it makes it hard sometimes. And I've been distracted as well, so maybe I've not been trying as much as I should have."

"Get to the point you pain in the ass colourful damn shadow."

I swear sometimes this thing just goes on and on.

"Right, sorry. She’s-”

“Asher, Asher, wake the fuck up we need to head to the meeting.” Ryker’s voice snaps me awake and I bellow, letting out a loud roar.

“No!!!”

Ryker dashes away as I rise from the chair, my claws are out and I lunge for him. “They were about to tell me where she is!”

I have him pinned against the wall by his neck, squeezing tight.

“Alpha,” Ryker wheezes. “What the fuck are you doing?” His eyes blaze, but he doesn’t try to rip my hand off his throat.

“The colourful shadows, they were about to tell me where she is. They said she was safe!”

His eyes lose their anger, and a look of pity enters them instead. “Ash, you were dreaming mate,” he says softly.

His hand comes up slowly and wraps around the one I’m holding his throat with. “It was a dream, but we have to get to a meeting now to get information to find her.”

I loosen my grip, releasing him slowly. He keeps his hand in mine, holding it tight and placing his other hand on my shoulder. “I know it probably felt real. Fuck, me and Freddie have dreams about her all the time, of finding her or finding someone that has her location.
