THE CONSULT

One of the high ranking women in the force was a female and Melinda wanted to speak with her. She was always ladylike and she commanded respect with a look.

Melinda went into her office and sat down after greeting her.

"Okay Melinda, what brings you into my office?"

"I want to talk to you about Vincenzo Costa."

"Okay."

"Is he high priority for capture?"

"Hmm, not really as there are much bigger fish out there but if we got him it would be good. What is it that you are thinking?"

"Well, I think I could help to bring him down. I mean information that will stick.

"Really, how?"

"I don't want to show my hand just yet but I think I have a way to. It would take some time of course."

"I need more than that."

"I really can't say any more than that. I just want to know what you would be willing to do to catch someone like him."

"Hmm, is this a question from the detective or from the friend you can talk to when thing get bad in the office for you as a female?"

"I want you to advise me as my friend."

"Somehow something sounds fishy about this. I want you to tell me exactly what you are up to Melinda."

"I can assure should that it is safe and if it works out as it should, it will be a big arrest, we will all look very good."

Katherine still was not assured Melinda was being as truthful as she should be. She was worried about her. She might just get in too deep.

"Okay Melinda. Let me at least say this. I know you and I know you will go ahead even if I advise against it. I was a lot like you when I was younger. I took risks and thankfully they paid off. My bosses were always upset with me. I beg you to be careful. These people are more dangerous than you think they are. They can put out bait just as well or even better than we can and use it against us."

"Okay, that advice will do quite fine for me."

"Okay, so you just wanted me to say I know how you are thinking."

"Pretty much; you have helped me out a lot. Thanks for seeing me."

"Not a problem. Just be careful and I pray it works in your favor."

Melinda left the office. Katherine racked her brain trying to figure out what leap the young detective was going to take.
