With a worried look on her face, Lenora looked at Gordon. “She’s been gone for quite some time now. Do you think she’s okay?”

Gordon nodded. “I think she’s just a little overwhelmed. You have to remember that less than a week ago she didn’t know that any of you existed and finding out that the man who raised her was not her father after all these years was a pretty big blow.”

Lenora sighed. “I suppose it all is daunting for her and I can’t imagine what must have been going through her mind after you contacted her.”

Gordon picked his briefcase up off of the table. “She reacted as anyone in her predicament would have I suppose. At first she didn’t believe me and denied everything and I can’t blame her for that. She did take it better than I expected though. I believe she’s a well-grounded young woman who was raised very well from what I can tell. Collin would have been proud of her.”

“He was proud of her,” Lenora said, nodding in agreement. “I remember how excited he had been after she graduated from college. He carried a picture of her in his wallet until the day he died. If only we could turn back the hands of time, things could have been so different for him and Cassandra, for all of us.”

“I know, Lenora. We all do things that we regret but we can’t change the past. All we can do is learn from it. If it’s any comfort, I have no doubt that Cassandra will come to see that Collin did what he thought was best for her and that he did love her, even if it was from afar.”

Lenora stood up from her chair. “Of course you’re right. I hope that she will give us a chance and allow us to now be a part of her life. There are so many things I would like to share with her.”

Gordon patted Lenora’s hand. “You’re a good woman with a kind heart and I have no doubt that Cassandra will come to accept you and Eelyn and love you both as she would any family member. She’s too much like Collin in that aspect I gather just from what he had told me about her over the years.”

“She’s a beautiful young woman and the resemblance between her and Collin is uncanny. Seeing her allows me to still be close to him,” Lenora said as she stepped around the side of the table. “Speaking of Collin, if you will forward me the bill for your services, I will see that it’s settled.”

Gordon shook his head. “That’s not necessary because Collin has already taken care of that matter.”

Lenora smiled. “I should have known.”

Gordon laughed. “The one thing you can say about Collin is that he was always very thorough.”

“Yes, he was and you can add full of surprises to that statement as well. What he did with Robert and Veronica was quite eye-opening. They handled it just as I suspected they would.
