Fix-It and Forget-It Baking with Your Slow Cooker by Phyllis Good

1. Grease interior of slow cooker crock.

2. Slice apples into crock, spreading them out evenly.

3. In a good-sized bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

4. Break egg into dry ingredients and mix together.

5. Cut butter into chunks. Using your fingers, or 2 knives, or a pastry cutter, work into dough until small chunks form.

6. Scatter chunks over apples.

7. Sprinkle liberally with roasted cinnamon. Add a dash or two of cardamom.

8. Cover with cooker lid. Bake on High 3–3½ hours, or until firm in the middle and juices bubble up around the edges.

9. Remove lid carefully, tilting it quickly away from yourself so no condensation drips on the crisp. Continue baking 30 more minutes to allow the topping to crisp up.

10. Let cool until warm or room temperature before serving.
