When we all got to the club that night I was still full from the pizza we had back at the apartment so I wasn’t ready for shots yet. William, Lorelei, and Travis all went up to the bar and I went to search for a table. Travis had ended up taking a large barrel curling iron to my hair and curling it in sections back off my face leaving it full and sexy. I wore my black stilettos which at that point were becoming my signature shoes but in all sincerity I didn’t want to have to break in new ones and they went well with my outfit. I found a few people getting ready to leave so I claimed stake to their table once they moved. I sat up on one of the barstools at the table and looked around. It was a fun and colorful bar. The walls were a vibrant orange/red and the fixtures and bar were jet black. There was discreet lighting hidden around the edges of the wall and the bottom of the bar front that gave the place a dark, romantic vibe. The room I was in had the bar and sets of high-top tables. The only thing separating it from the dance floor was five steps that led down with a handrail no doubt for the drunkards, and the DJ was set up with laser lights and a booming sound system on the back wall.

Lorelei and William found me and put their stuff at the table to go dance. Travis came a little later with drinks and shots for us and we stayed at the table sipping on our rum and Cokes he bought, taking a look around. Travis and I mingled with some other people around us and were getting ready to refill our drinks when I saw a beautiful Latino man head straight in our direction. He had raven black hair and a goatee to match. His skin was a cool caramel and his eyes were a deep brown that almost looked black. His full lips and beautiful bone structure showcased his Latin descent very well but if I wasn't mistaken there was a mix of something else in him, too. His hair was short and he was around five foot ten, give or take an inch. He was wearing black dress pants and a red silk button up that was unbuttoned to the middle of his hairless chest.

“Who is this beautiful woman, Travis?”

“Hey, Marcus," Travis said blandly. "This is Avery Stone. She's our new neighbor.”

“I'm Marcus Valdez.”

He took my hand and kissed it looking me up and down like I was dinner. For any other woman I am sure she would have been thrilled but it left a bitter taste in my mouth. I pulled my hand from him with a tight smile.

“It’s nice to meet you.”

“And where are you from?”

“Oklahoma.” I took a long drink.

“You don’t have an accent.”

I eyed him sideways. “Not everyone in Oklahoma does. We don’t ride horses to work either.
