A WIRE THONG & AMMUNITION PROPELLANT

An unusual modern technique that makes use of this flexible thong action can be employed in an emergency if you have access to ammunition and a length of fence wire. Cut open a shotgun cartridge, or carefully pry out a bullet head from its case and tip the propellant into a pile on some tinder.

1 Take a 30" length of wire and fit each end with a toggle handle.

2 Vigorously work the entire length of wire back and forth around a dry branch in a way similar to the previously mentioned thong techniques.

3 When it is smoking profusely and you are at the climax of your effort, immediately touch the propellant with the hot part of the wire. It will burst into flame, lighting your tinder in the process. Be aware that the propellant will flare up a little when it is lit.
