Perhaps the Finns you encounter will want to take you out to eat at their favorite restaurant. If they invite you, they will almost certainly pick up the tab; if you invite them out for a meal, be prepared to foot the bill. If this meeting is mutually agreed upon, and it’s unclear who invited whom, the bill should be divided equally. This rule holds regardless of gender. This is what Finnish equality looks like.

As an addendum to this section, it should be noted that only very close friends and family come calling on each other without having first agreed to a meeting, or at least having called in advance. So, if you have reason to visit a Finn at their home, be sure to let them know beforehand.
