“Excuse me ma’am?”
“I said can you please lock me back up?”
The lady looked confused. She didn’t know why anyone would be asking something like that. Before she had the chance to respond Smoke walked up and grabbed her arm. She immediately snatched it away.
“Lay-Lay chill out. Just walk outside with me.”
“Don’t you fucking touch me.” She shot him the evilest glare she could and proceeded past him.
The cold air slapped against her face so hard she almost lost her breath. She had forgotten how cold it gets at night. The only thing she had was the small jacket to the track suit she was wearing. There were two brown benches on the sidewalk that no one was sitting on, so she sat down. Smoke sat right next to her. He was so close his leg was touching hers. She wanted so badly to move but she was tired of playing this cat and mouse game.
Lay-Lay turned to look at him. “What’s up?”
“I just came to apologize. I should have never put my hands on you like that. You just talk so fucking much, you be pissing me off.”
“It’s cool. You having me locked up showed me your true feelings.”
Smoke turned to face her. “Lay-Lay I swear it wasn’t me. One of those fucking nurses at the hospital heard me on the phone and told the police. They claimed they have to do that in all domestic situations. Come on now, you know me better than that.”
Lay-Lay was listening but she honestly didn’t care. She didn’t even believe him for real. How in the hell did the nurse at the hospital know her name? That story didn’t add up but whatever. “You probably fucking whatever nurse told on me.”
“Here you go with this shit.” Smoke didn’t miss a beat. He started lying ASAP. He knew if he even paused too long Lay-Lay would snap on him about thinking of a lie. She gave him a look letting him know she didn’t believe him. “Let’s just go home we can talk about this there.”
Lay-Lay snatched her head back and scrunched her nose up. “Nigga fuck you mean go home? I ain’t going nowhere with your ass. I’ll wait on Morgan and Jade to get here.”
Smoke wanted to protest but today had been a hectic one. He figured she wouldn’t want to see him. This worked out anyway. Kristen had been blowing him up all day and he missed Lana. He would swing through to check on Kristen before going back to Lana’s house for the night. He and Lay could try this again tomorrow.
“Alright pull up in the front. Mr. Unfaithful already bailed me out.”
He eavesdropped on her conversation. He needed to see if it was a nigga coming to pick her up. She had told him Jade and Morgan but he would stay to be sure. When he noticed King’s green Range Rover coming to a stop in the parking lot he tried to help Lay stand up but she snatched away.
