The picture above shows the wooden planks being laid out prior to gluing and compressing. The area of the blade where the hub was to be formed remained under compression until the remainder of the glue dried as shown on the left.

All wood blades fitted to Rotol airscrews had to be covered : Rotoloid or Rayloid covering consisted of a nitro-cellulose sheet approximately 0.04 inches thick. Schwarz covering comprised cellulose acetate sheet of approximately 0.04in. thickness, reinforced with fabric. In this covering the leading edge was protected by a continuous brass sheath. Beneath this sheath and extending a little way behind it, was a reinforcing sheet of phosphor-bronze. Jablo covering consisted of a bronze gauze wrapped round the blade, on to which successive coats of Jablo synthetic resin enamel was sprayed.
