LePretre House

ALEXEY SERGEEV

Some say what happened next was because the brother had come to New Orleans with money and jewels stolen from his sibling. Others say it was a hired execution by Suleyman, who would remain the sultan only so long as he was alive. If he died, his younger brother could assume his throne. You know what they say about an ounce of prevention.

One morning a neighbor was strolling down the sidewalk and noticed a large amount of blood running out of the house onto the street. When the police went inside they discovered what was left of everyone from last night’s bacchanalia. It was a Charles Manson, Helter Skelter scene times six. All 48 occupants had been so thoroughly chopped up and dismembered, police couldn’t identify what piece went with whom. The prince had not been hacked to pieces like his entourage. He was found to have been buried alive out back in the courtyard.

It’s hard to imagine 48 people would have waited patiently in line while two or three swordsmen sliced and diced a few partygoers at a time. So, there must have been a small army of killers. As densely populated as the French Quarter was and is, to pull this off and not be noticed, we can assume these were professional-grade assassins.

The case has never been solved.

The Gardette-LePretre House is now one of the most haunted places in New Orleans. Witnesses say they have seen the ghosts, heard screams and music, and smelled incense coming from the house.
