I didn’t care any more if whatever Amiah was, was fucking with my mind. That portal had opened and yanked her away, and I’d felt as if it had torn out my heart. It didn’t matter if my feelings for her weren’t a hundred percent mine. That still meant the feelings that were mine were certain that I loved her, loved her spirit and determination and trust. God, no one had ever trusted me like she had. She gave me everything, her body and heart, even though she still expected our arrangement to come to an end.

And the moment she’d been taken from me, I knew I didn’t want it to end and I was damn well going to do whatever it took to give her what she wanted. She wanted to be free of the Winter Court? I’d take the throne if I had to. She wanted to be free of her soul bond? I’d get her the God damned Heart. She wanted me? I’d take the sacred vows with her.

Fucking hell.

I was well and truly screwed.

And I didn’t care. The idea of losing her forever had solidified my certainty and it didn’t matter how that had come to pass.

We left the kitchen and headed down the hall, a whole fucking processional with everyone — including Cassius with his fire barely contained and smoke billowing around him. The flickering magical flames dancing near the ceiling cast shadows on the wall around us, and I watched my shadow heave and twist, as if the battle inside me was being portrayed on the walls.

As much as Amiah had given me a boost of fae magic when we’d had sex, my insides were still on fire. And connecting with Karthick and then breaking Padraigin’s control of the water around Amiah’s head had only made it worse.

And while my fae glow was still strong, it hid the truth. That I was weak and my ability to connect with Faerie’s primal magic was still seriously damaged. I just hoped to God the damage wasn’t permanent. If it was, I had no hope of taking Deaglan’s keys and then Amiah would have no hope of being free of Rin.

I also wasn’t going to think about the fact that her unnatural fae glow was bright again when the glow from having sex with me and Hawk should have already faded. If she wanted to tell me what had happened between her and Rin, she would. As it was, she was making a determined effort not to look at him which meant she was still trying to resist the compulsion of the angelic mating brand to seal their bond… and that the compulsion was getting stronger.

We headed into the suite at the end of the hall, the sitting room bright and airy with the morning sunlight, and stepped into the first bedroom. The bed had been magically remade. In fact all the rooms in the aerie had reset to a clean and waiting state when we hadn’t returned within a few days of leaving.
