Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt declared that "the whole of Christendom is as destitute of Bible Christianity as the idolatrist Pagans."" B.H. Roberts, noted Mormon church historian and member of the "First Council of Seventy," referred to Christians as those "who are blindly led by the blind."52

Christians teach false doctrines. Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt also emphasized the evils of Christianity:

Will Christendom have the unblushing impudence to call themselves the people of God...? How long will the heavens suffer such wickedness to go unpunished!"

Another evil of no small magnitude is the vast amount of false doctrines which are taught, and extensively believed, and practiced throughout Christendom. Doctrines which are calculated to ruin the soul.. . .These soul-destroying doctrines... are taught in Christendom, and... millions have had the wickedness to believe [them] ....Now what will become of all these false teachers... and what will become of the people who suffer themselves to be led by such hypocrites? They will, every soul of them, unless they repent of these false doctrines, be cast down to hell ....Such heavendaring wickedness is calculated to sink these vile impostors to the lowest hell. And unless the people repent of having received baptism and other ordinances of the Gospel at the hands of such deceivers... [and] embrace the fulness of the Gospel which God has revealed anew in the Book of Mormon... [every one] of you will, most assuredly, be damned.54

In our time the rhetoric is somewhat toned down but the reproachful view remains. President and prophet Joseph Fielding Smith stated that "gospel truth [was] perverted and defiled" by Catholicism until it became a pagan abomination, and even the Reformation "perpetuated these evils and, therefore, the same corrupted doctrines and practices were perpetuated in these Protestant organizations.""

In his Mormon Doctrine, LDS theologian Bruce McConkie universally condemns all non-Mormon churches, asserting that "a perverted Christianity holds sway among the so-called Christians of apostate Christendom."" He also observes, commenting on the Book of Mormon (1 Nephi, chapters 13-14; 2 Nephi, chapters 28-29): "The Church of the Devil and the Great and Abominable Church are [terms] used to identify all churches or organizations of whatever name or nature.. .which are designed to take men on a course that leads away from God and his laws and thus from salvation in the kingdom of God [the Mormon Church] .
