Chapter Twelve

The entire weekend had flown by, and Wynter had chosen not to reach out to anyone. She wasn’t taking phone calls, and most definitely wasn’t taking visitors. Wynter was stuck home nursing a bruise on the left side of her face’ close to her eye. Wynter sent a text out to Joelle just to let her know that she was okay. She was still shaken up over that fact that she had almost lost her life during her job, Friday night. She had never been caught slipping in all the years she had been doing what she was doing. Why now? That is what Wynter couldn’t quite understand. It was as if Katrina and her men knew she was coming. That was impossible, because the only people who knew were, Glen and Navid. Navid was the one who saved her life, and Glen wanted Katrina dead just as bad she did. Wynter thought maybe she was losing focus. She didn’t want to blame her lack of focus on Rico, but he was a major cause of it. Since Rico had come into her life, Wynter was second guessing things, and herself. Never did she contemplate on leaving her life behind, or quitting her search for Christian’s killer; until Rico came into the picture. Rico showed her that there was much more to life, in the short period of time they been seeing each other.

Wynter was sprawled across her couch in complete silence thinking about her and Rico when her door bell sounded off alerting that she had a visitor. Her mind had not changed. She didn’t want visitors so she lied there and thought the person would ultimately give up and leave. It wasn’t the case.

Rico stood outside of Wynter’s door pissed off. Her car was in the driveway so he knew she was home. If Wynter, wanted to cut him off, that was okay with him. He just wanted to make sure she was good. Out the corner of his eyes, Rico saw the curtain in the living room window move, and seconds later, heard the sound of locks unlocking.

“Hey, Rico.” Wynter said, as she walked into the house.

“Don’t fucking hey, Rico me ma!” Rico said, as he pushed past her, and walked into the house.

Wynter closed the door behind them and turned to face him.

“Please, stop yelling! I have the worse headache ever.”

“What kind of games are you on Wynter? Real shit. You just disappear on a nigga. Don’t answer my calls or text and shit. I see you good though so fuck it.” Rico said moving toward the door.

“That’s what you came over here for? To yell then dip?”

“Fuck you mean. I came over here to see if ya ass was fucking breathing. But you in here acting like shit sweet, so what the fuck I’m sticking around for? I’m curious though; you spent a day around Josiah, and got scared and shit.”

Wynter cut him off, “What are you talking about? This has nothing to do with Josiah.
