Chapter Four

“Finally," Lexie sighed as they'd made their way to the waterfall. "This is beautiful. I've never seen anything like it before." Lexie turned in circles looking at the waterfall, amazed at the beauty of the water flowing over the mountain, crashing into the river. She wanted to run and play as if she were a child. Turning to look at Cam, she knew there was no one else she would rather be here with than him.

That thought caused her to pause in mid-stride, because in all of the time they had known one another, it had never occurred to her to think about how great it was to be in his company. The man drove her crazy, but today was nothing like their usual interactions. She knew he’d been annoyed at how difficult the ride was, and honestly, she’d been hoping to have a chance to get him back for the amount of aggravation he caused her. In the end, he had been a real trooper. As they walked to the waterfall sharing bits and pieces of their past, she’d come to know and appreciate another side of him.

This was a Cam who had a strong work ethic and huge love for his family. He was funny and thoughtful in his descriptions and observations. Although they didn’t agree on a lot of things, particularly political beliefs, he wasn’t dogmatic or closed off. Taking a deep breath, she tried to get herself out of her head and stay in the moment. So what if she hadn’t expected this type of Cam. It didn’t mean anything. They were two adults enjoying an outdoor activity, and that was where she was going to leave it. Keep telling yourself that, a wicked little voice whispered in her head. Giving herself a mental shake, she looked around at the surroundings again.

"Cam, isn’t this place beautiful?" Lexie couldn't help herself; she ran over to him and wrapped his arm with hers, pulling him toward her as if they were going to walk into the water. "I can't believe I've never come here before. This is amazing, and I’ve never seen anything like it. This is definitely a place for lovers. I'm surprised we didn't come across a couple out for some fun." Laughing at the possibilities, she turned to look at Cam and realized he was gazing down at her with desire in his eyes.

Lexie felt her face warm at the inappropriate comment she’d just made. She had become so used to the back and forth banter they’d formed today, she didn’t really think of the implications of that image. The look he was giving her made her feel warm from the top of her head to the tips of her toes. Chewing nervously on her bottom lip, she tried to think of what she could say to bring them back to a less sexually charged moment, but her brain was too busy trying to process the possibilities of what a look like that could mean.
