Chapter 18

Zahara

It was the day before Thanksgiving and instead of going food shopping and getting stuff ready like a normal person would, I was helping Kori find an outfit for her date with Zane. The day I left her because I was upset with Danger she got a ride home with Yaz. She didn’t tell me what happened, but I knew something serious happened because once she came in she immediately text the dude Zane.

For the past week she has been texting dude and walking around with a smile. I was happy for her because she was finally doing something for her. I didn’t know Zane, but as long as he kept Kori happy then I would be happy.

“Do you think I should wear this or do you think it’s a little too much for a first date?” she asked.

She had just come out her closet wearing a pair form fitting red dress that hugged her body in all the right places. On her feet she was rocking a pair of knee-high boots. Kori looked beautiful in anything she wore, but I felt like this outfit was a little too much, especially with it being the end of November.

“I think you should change. It’s too cold to have all that skin out like that,” I told her.

She sucked her teeth and went back in the closet to change. While she was in there her phone rang. I looked at the screen and saw that it was Yaz’s mom calling.

“Kori, why is Yaz’s mom calling you?” I yelled loud enough for her to hear me.

“I don’t know, but give it here so I can answer.”

I walked over to the closet to give her the phone before Yaz’s mom hung up. I listened as Kori said a couple of things before telling Yaz’s mom she would be right over.

“Kori, where the hell are you going?” I questioned as she walked out of the closet. This time she had on jeans that looked painted on and a cute over sized sweater with the same knee-high boots. “This is the outfit you need to wear.”

“Thank you, but I have to check on Yaz’s mom. She said she needed to talk to me tonight.”

“Kori you have a date. You just can’t drop everything,” I told her.

“Yes I can. I will just explain to Zane that something else came up.”

“Okay, what if I go over there and find out what it is she needs to talk to you about?” I suggested.

“You don’t even know her that. It will be kind of weird.”

“Then I’ll take Yaz with me. Just go on the date and I’ll call you and let you know what happened.”

“Fine Zahara. If anything is wrong you better call me.”

“Of course I will, now enjoy your date. I have to get dressed and call Yaz.”

I left out her room with an eerie feeling. Something just didn’t seem right. Kori hasn’t talked to Yaz’s mom since the day she met her, so why would she want to talk to Kori now? I picked up my phone to call Yaz.
