“Harper.” I could feel someone brushing against my arm as I slowly opened one eye. The bright lights of the city made me squint.

“Where are we?” I croaked, still groggy.

“Back in Seattle.”

I peered out the window and saw that we were in my apartment parking lot. “Sorry for falling asleep,” I said, feeling sheepish. I looked at the front entrance and then back at Wyatt. “I’m not sure how this works. Do you want to come up and… talk more?”

His eyes darkened. “I think we both know I want to do more than talk,” he growled. “But you’ve been overloaded with information today and you need time to process it.” He kissed my forehead tenderly. “I had an idea while you were sleeping, for how we can help you remember.”

My heart glimmered with hope and I straightened in my seat. “I’m open to anything.”

“I was hoping you’d say that,” he admitted. “Do you remember the first place I took you?”

I chewed on my bottom lip and tried to remember. Nothing came to mind. Had it been a fancy restaurant downtown? I bowed my head low and shook my head. “No.”

He squeezed my leg. “It’s not your fault you can’t remember.” I saw his fist clench and then unclench before continuing, “We left the coffee shop after our interview and I took you to a place that’s very special to me.” He smiled. “It was the first time I let down my guard and showed you the real Wyatt.”

I grinned. “That sounds nice.”

“It was.” The smoldering look in his eyes made me think more had happened that day than he was telling me. “I was thinking that maybe if we recreated our first moments together, you’d remember something.”

“I guess it’s worth a shot.” I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Wyatt was a billionaire who probably had access to the best scientific minds. If they’d said there was no antidote or cure for my memory loss, then I believed it.

“It’s definitely worth a try.” He traced my knuckles lightly with his fingers. “If nothing else, we get to spend time together. Every second with you matters.” He kissed my hand gently. My skin prickled against the stubble of his beard.

“Tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow,” he repeated, unable to hide the childlike grin. “When can I pick you up?”

“I have a ten o’clock meeting, and then I should work on my story. How about three?”

“It’s a date,” he stated as he lowered his brows. “Only this time, you’re getting the real Wyatt. No helicopter, no vintage Dom Perignon,” he teased. “See you tomorrow.”
