Kaiya

As Kaiya took a moment to catch her breath in the room that Ella had showed her, she thought about her reception.

Ella was very nice, and Kaiya thought that she would be a good person to have in her corner while she was in the shifter world helping Sean pull off his little charade. Kaiya had an idea that Ella was a lot smarter than anyone gave her credit for and already had an inkling that there was something going on.

She was more amused by Darcy’s reaction than upset by it. It was pretty much what Kaiya expected from him. According to everything she heard about dragon shifters while she was growing up, Darcy’s reaction to her was typical. The bear shifter clan that she grew up with considered dragon shifters to be arrogant and snobbish, especially the males.

Her clan had kept mostly to themselves and rarely interacted with any other shifter clan. However, they never intermingled with the dragon shifters. It just wasn’t done.

A soft knock on her door interrupted her thoughts.

“I was wondering if you would like to explore the dragon shifter part of this world,” Sean asked.

“That would be awesome,” Kaiya said, excitedly.

That was something that no one in her clan would have ever been able to do.

He took her out to a large clearing in the woods. It was absolutely incredibly beautiful, and it took Kaiya’s breath away.

Sean watched her keenly, waiting for her reaction. He seemed pleased that she was so taken with the beauty of the area. The ground glittered with many different colored dragon scales.

“This is where dragons of all ages come to spar or to have real fights,” he informed her. “That is why you see so many scales on the ground. They were lost in battle.”

Kaiya picked one up and held it to her throat.

“This would make a beautiful necklace,” she told him.

With a smile, Sean shook his head and said, “I’m afraid that can’t happen. A dragon scale can only be given to a human if the dragon gives the scale to that person. The scales have a magic all of their own.”

Once again, she found herself amused by the fact that Sean thought that she was a human and hadn’t even considered the thought that she was a shifter. If he asked her, she would tell the truth.

However, her father had always told her that knowledge was power. The fact that she was a shifter wasn’t knowledge that Sean needed for either of them to complete their role in this mating masquerade.

“Would you mind if I shifted and flew around for a while? I haven’t had a chance to do that in the human world too much, and I need to be ready for the battle that is going to happen between the clan that my brother joined and my clan,” he asked.

“I would love to see you fly,” she said.

She watched in awe as he shifted into his dragon form. That form was a thing of beauty, the likes of which she was never likely to see again.
