Chapter Eight

Issa stood with Thacker and Remon as Daynette displayed a rich and spectacular voice that stretched throughout the night. Thea was holding onto Minuette, but the little girl was pulling hard. She broke free and ran to the stage, where Daynette kept singing without missing a beat as she picked her daughter up. She went through three more songs, and then Luna called a break.

Ford stepped up to the mic and said, “And now, let’s try out the newest video out of our collaboration.”

Daynette took her sleepy daughter and said, “Someone needs a nap.”

“I am fine, Mama.”

“I meant me, baby girl.”

“Oh, go sleep in my room. It was really quiet and comfy.” Minu smiled. “I will watch over you like you do with me.”

Daynette cleared it with Jess and headed inside.

Issa watched her go. “She looks exhausted.”

Remon nodded. “It’s an emotional day, but hey, now we all know what Dorian is. That is quite the secondary shape. I haven’t seen it before, but it is impressive.”

Issa blinked. “What is it?”

Thacker smiled and told her. He gently closed her mouth with his finger under her jaw. “On the plus side, no one will get within striking distance of her again.”

The huge projection screen flickered to life, and they listened to the music and watched the video of a woman regaining her ability to walk, learning she was pregnant and then fighting into health. Daynette was the singer, and she held a baby at the end of the video.

Dorian stared, and he teared up. There were a few more about a single mom getting back on her feet, but after the end of the videos, the band started up, and music played without a singer.

Issa watched as Dorian headed to the house, but Remon steered her to the dance floor and pulled her in close. A slow dance was just what she needed.
