Yet for people living on the most meager incomes imaginable, such as social security and disability, there was no cost of living allowance (COLA) increase in 2010 or 2011, (usually only a $9 to $13 per month increase over the previous year). The reason for this? A statement issued by Social Security that there has been no change in the Consumer Price Index, i.e., “no observable rise in the cost of living,” therefore, no COLA for all the people subsisting on tiny social security incomes. Yet Wall Street gets bailouts of billions of dollars. Hmmmm.
